A Bit About Me
My name is Rome and I am based in the UK. I am AFAB and identify as a Maverique Non-Binary, which is a specific gender identity under the umbrella term of aporagender, which comes under the non-binary umbrella term. Maverique is characterised by autonomy and inner conviction regarding a sense of self; my gender is entirely separate from anything that is or stems from masculinity or femininity, but is not to be without or neutral of gender, this term was coined by Vesper H. on their Tumblr blog Queer as Cat after being dissatisfied with the term neutrois by May 31, 2014. Maveriques can be multigender, with their other genders being related to masculinity, femininity and neutrality - but this does not apply to me. The flag was also designed by Vesper and released 15 days later, on June 15.

The colours mean the following: Yellow, meaning primary gender, as yellow is a primary colour, meaning entirely independent from the other primary colours, like how Maverique is completely separate from masculinity and femininity. Yellow is also often associated with non-binary gender. White represents autonomy and independence, both from the gender binary and from the spectrum of colours. White is the blank gender slate upon which Maverique is based. Orange represents a burning inner conviction, and the unorthodox and individualistic nature of mavericks. Maverique is a hybrid of the word maverick and the French suffix -ique, meaning "similar too". This translates to Maverique being only 'maverick-like', in that it is unorthodox, even in regards to many non-binary genders, due to being unrelated to the gender binary, but is still not completely 'maverick-like' in that the gender is not a conscious choice of the Maverique person, nor is it a political stance against the gender binary.

I am Pansexual and Finromantic, which I will explain individually. Firstly, my pansexuality means that I am genderblind and find it difficult to tell where the boundaries are that lie between each gender, therefore gender is not a contending factor when it comes to choosing a potential partner. Because of this, I find all genders equally attractive - as I have no gender or genital preference - and value the personal characteristics of that person over their gender identity or expression. I am also Finromantic, which means I find femininity in all genders romantically attractive. Remember, femininity is a social construct, so it can be present in all genders.

I also recognise as aroace, with myself being greysexual and demiromantic. Greysexual is defined by having a sexual identity on the asexual spectrum but does not conform to the asexual identity as a whole. It means that a relate to asexuality but not to the typical identities on the spectrum. The term can be used as a general identity or as an umbrella term for those who don't experience asexuality fully but do not define themselves as fully allosexual - such as demisexual. This can mean that greysexual people may experience sexual attraction infrequently, weakly, only during certain situations or may just feel alienated from sexual attraction as a whole. Demiromantic is the romantic orientation version of demisexual; this means that I can only form romantic attraction to a person when I have a strong bond with that person (this could be platonic, sexual or emotional).

On a non-gender note, I am partially sighted, due to a long-standing medical condition, but I am still pursuing visual art - such as drawing and makeup. I have been doing drag since early adolescence, before my vision fully deteriorated, and I find it so liberating to express the femininity I was blessed with at birth without questioning the integrity of my gender. I have only recently started to draw again; I have a GCSE in art but as my vision deteriorated, so did my capacity of art. But, since COVID, arrived, I have taken it back up and am trying my best by making continuous hair strokes which I build up to try and draw. I love designing outfits and fashion, which this blog features heavily, specifically vintage fashion. There is just something so unique and intriguing about vintage fashion and I can't get enough of it.
